Greets.

I have put a 660Ti back on GPUGrid. I also have 2 GTX 460. I know the 460 was never a great card for the Grid but I am curious what I might expect from them on long and short work units. 1 is a PC that games are played on so will not be 100%. But 1 is on a dedicated cruncher. Better to run shorts on the gamer and longs on the dedicated PC?

I have 2 GTX260 and 8800GT but I think I will leave them on E@H due to that projects support of older hardware.

Also any estimates on what points the 460's might do would be appreciated although that is not #1.

Cheers!

On a GTX 560, I could get the longs finished in about 18-19 hours, which was good enough for the bonus since I left that machine on 24/7. The GTX 460 shouldn't be that much different, but I would put it on the shorts, especially since the longs sometimes have greater memory requirements now that are beyond the 460 limit as I recall.

Thanks for the reply.

The dedicated 460 has 1 gig memory. The 66Ti is running a SANTI_MAR and using less than 500 megs GPU memory. Do any work units use more than that?

Cheers!

They sometimes use even more than 1 GB now.

It looks like more are on the way.

I have a 768mb that took about 30 hours for long runs so I switched it to Short.

The reason yours take 30 hours is continuous suspending by BOINC either wrong settings in manager or using all CPU's for other projects, probably wrong settings

I have two GTX460 with 1gb of memory and they are running 24/7 on long runs. There have been only half a dozen work units that were greater than 1gb and thus slowing down to not get the bonus. Since the cards take 17-22 hours to complete long work units, setting the work buffers right is critical to get the 24h bonus. I have Min Work Buffer at 0.01 days and the Max Additional Work Buffer at 0.05 days. Since doing that, I have always hit the 24h bonus now (less the >1gb work units).

What are the correct settings? Or a link that has them please.

Thanks

You might also update your graphic drivers to latest WHQL. Have you got more than 1 WU working on the same GPU at a time?

It was running 2 E@H WU at a time but was just going to go with 1 on GPUGrid. Didn't think about driver, good idea.

Thanks

I have one GeForce GTX 560 Ti and one GTX 260 on the same board.

Both run fine GPU and Einstein at the same time.

Aprox running times on Long runs:
26 h GTX 260
18 h GTX 560

You also have a lot of BOINC suspensions on GPUGrid due to having to continually stop one task to run another.

1 GTX460 added with long work units. Set cache to .1 and.5, got 1 WU. Gave it 100% of one core. Other 5 cores running WCG. Every few days I will set GPUGrid to No New Tasks and up the cache, download more WCG then reset cache to .1 and .5 and Allow New Tasks. More hands on than I like but should be ok.

The other GTX460 is 756 meg and games are played on it almost every evening and some on weekends. I will put it on shorties.

Considering putting one GTX260 on short WUs as well.

Thanks for all the input.

Do you have an "always on" internet connection? If so you could easily set min and max cache to 0 and you'll get a new (WU)'s just before last one finishes. This will also help with GPUGrid as you won't be running the clock on WU's waiting to run.

Good Luck

Internet is full time.

I know estimated time to completion is not always accurate but this is showing 24 hours 57 minutes. The CPU clocks are at 725 and IIRC it took a small OC fine. Does it help to up the Clocks, Memory or shaders? I know E@H it doesn't help much. Seems GPUGrid benefited from one just don't remember which.

EDIT:
I upped the clocks to 780. Maybe it will help.

I have mine at 754 to finish most WU's in 24hrs. I used to run @ 850 but as GPUGrid got more efficient Apps they wouldn't take that much. Does depend on card though. Try 770 and that should do you as long as you don't watch HD videos at the same time.

That's also why its important to have 0 caches because any waiting comes of the 24 hours

All PCs mentioned are 3.5gz 6 core AMDs. All are set for Boinc to use 5 cores.

The 660Ti uses 88-99% of one core.

The 460 uses roughly 25%.

Both are on same profile, or location.

I assume that the 460 uses less CPU because it is waiting for the slower GPU, slower than 660. 660 doing more work than 460.

Yes, the 460 needs less CPU but what you could run into is contention because all 6 cores are in use. Wait until first few results are out and you can tweak from there.

The 460 has it's own core. And from what I have read the long WUs are still better for points than the short ones even without the bonus.

Thank you for all the help and your patience. :-)

I didn't noticed!! Maybe because I have 98% usage of processor...?? I just changed it to 100%. I will read the forums tomorrow, I'm quite outdated. If you just give me a clue I'll make it faster.

Another thing, if anyone can answer about mineral cooling I'll apreciate it.I'm thinking in doing some hardware with Arduino to make a quite coplex cooling system with temperature control (just for fun and I'm bit sick of the fan's noise).

The GTX 460 1 gig finished a SANTI_MAR in 18 hours. :)

Looks like she will do fine.

Thanks again
