Now that the server is unloaded I'm trying to complete the switch to https. Please check if WUs up/download as usual (although I know that there are very few WUs).

Hi,
using comodo dragon (chrome) web browser to connect at gpugrid.net i have this response "your connection to this site is not secure".
Using Microsoft edge all seems ok.
Is't only a my problem ?
Thanks in advance

The recent change regards task distribution. The web site should already have https properly configured (so, the warning you see is odd - try to retype the address with https)

I got this message few minutes ago:

"This project is using an old URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add https://www.gpugrid.net/"

So we should add the URL again.

Can somebody confirm if the system works (after resetting the project)?

Have removed GPUgrid and re-attached with "https" connection.
Attachs fine, polls for jobs fine, downloads configuration files fine.
Will wait to see if I stumble across a wu.

20/05/2020 15:32:32 | GPUGRID | Master file download succeeded

So I'm guessing it works, even though no tasks are available atm.

It's not enough to reset the project, you should remove the project from BOINC manager (detach the host), then re-add the project with https://www.gpugrid.net/ . When adding GPUGrid, you should manually type in the 's' at the end of http before the colon (':') in the 'Project URL' field of the dialog box before you click on the 'next' button.
Otherwise it's working fine.

Important: Remember to back up your app_config.xml from the project's folder before you remove the project, as this process will erase all files from this folder and remove the folder, then create the folder and download everything again from the project's servers (but that does not include the app_config.xml, which is created by the user).

Thanks! If things work ok after manually adding the "s", we may need to ask the boinc client maintainers to update the URL there.

There is another way as well: Change in the

account_www.gpugrid.net
file:
<master_url>http://www.gpugrid.net/</master_url>

to:
<master_url>https://www.gpugrid.net/</master_url>

and restart boincmgr (BOINC Manager), then a new Masterfile will be downloaded. (This method is from Rosetta, they made the same change lately)

P.S. Is there a timeline, when new work will arrive?

Couple of issues, one of my accounts I cannot directly login to or access, I signed up through Science United and it seems linked with that. When I login through that its pulling http://www.gpugrid.net/
I removed this project which required me to stop syncing with Science united, then I created a new account linking to https://www.gpugrid.net/
I am unable to get new tasks under the project https://www.gpugrid.net/ It adds but nothing syncs.

GPUGRID: Notice from BOINC
This project is using an old URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add https://www.gpugrid.net/
5/20/2020 9:02:10 AM

When I try to remove GPUGRID the "Remove" tab is greyed out. I've stopped getting new tasks, Suspended it, Reset it. But that doesn't do it. Please advise me and the many others out there how to do it in your "Notices" that are sent out. I even went to Science United and excluded it before deleting my GPUGrid folder on my computer. After a restart of BOINC it came back and I received the same notice as above. You are going to have to make this easier for the many less computer savvy people out there wanting to crunch.

Thank you very much for this information.
Additionally, cc_config.xml file, if needed, must be edited to replace "http://www.gpugrid.net/" to new "https://www.gpugrid.net/" where it is mentioned.

Anyway, after doing all of that, the following messages currently appear at logs:

Wed 20 May 2020 16:45:39 WEST | GPUGRID | Your app_config.xml file refers to an unknown application 'acemd3'. Known applications: None

Ciao al momento indica che il progetto non ha tasks disponibili
nel mio profilo ci sono solo 9200 crediti, non sono stati trasferiti quelli precedenti.

I'n using BOINC v7.16.3 with a ca-bundle.crt dated ‎30 ‎July ‎2019, ‏‎17:03:50

I'll check for later certificate bundles when I can.

Strangely, the same certificate

is accepted by Google Chrome for this (https://www.gpugrid.net/) website.

Anyway, after doing all of that, the following messages currently appear at logs:

[quote]Wed 20 May 2020 16:45:39 WEST | GPUGRID | Your app_config.xml file refers to an unknown application 'acemd3'. Known applications: None
...

'acemd3' will automatically become 'known' when you get the first task allocated to your new attachment, and all the project files re-downloaded.

@Toni: you will have to notify the operators of BAM!, Science United, and all other account managers of your new master url, once it's working and stable.

Account Managers can't yet use the 'get_project_config.php' resolver for master urls, and have to update manually - although we keep telling BOINC to update this arcane procedure.

Thanks! If things work ok after manually adding the "s", we may need to ask the boinc client maintainers to update the URL there.

The exact request to make is to ask David Anderson to update the file "all_projects_list.xml" in all the multiple places where copies are kept and used. Clients should automatically pick up updated copies over the 14 days after that change is made.

This does not affect website SSL. It is only what add into boinc-client/boinc manager.

Toni's response above:https://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=5124&nowrap=true#54748

https for website have used SSL for a few years but boincstats have not updated link. Both ps3grid.net and GPUgrid.net share same cert.

We could not get any task but mention above masterfiles worked and no error in eventlog to scheduler. That is what we could do for now to confirm.

The upload url is

<upload_url>https://www.gpugrid.org/PS3GRID_cgi/file_upload_handler</upload_url>

I got my stuck task uploaded and reported by changing that to http for each of the six separate upload files.

The sched_reply file I got back when reporting that task still used http in the definitions for the command buttons to be displayed in BOINC Manager: e.g.

<gui_url>
<name>Forum / Help</name>
<description>Questions, support and discussions</description>
<url>http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_index.php</url>
</gui_url>

No new WUs for a few days now.
I have reattached the project using BoincMGR website, and haven't seen the error anymore, but I get no new WUs.

I reset to the new GPUGRID URL and I can communicate with the project, but no tasks are sent since no tasks are available.

I am using BOINC Manager if that makes a difference.

Just checked that my project url is https://www.gpugrid.net/

And detaching from Science United, for that of an Account Manager here, for only making it a regular account instead, now it makes it my full personal name for that of account, without any registering, and I really do not like that.

Here it does not show up in my account either, for only a quick look around being made.

Here it needs a fix as soon as possible.

And of course I had to log out first, for only checking computer details for that of my postings.

Linux files downloaded manually using http: - I'll let you know how I get on with uploads when they've finished, and how the downloads go on the next batch.

Edit - Linux machine (host 508381) has now downloaded an additional task without error or manual intervention.

And getting three new tasks right now, all CUDA, so even better.

But if not using an Account Manager here, the other option is creating an account for each separate project, and here not any listed for such, when only Science United here.

Guess it is all just a stupid thing here, for not any better instead.

Just to add here only finding both Milkyway@home and Einstein@home still running under Science United for that of account, while GPUGrid became the local user name for being registered separately, after stopping the Account Manager.

But the strange thing here is that Asteroids@home is also listed for that of the local user name only, for having tasks still with all four of these,
for either being run, waiting to report, and also ready to start.

The only thing I could do, is pressing the Update button here for that of finished tasks, but it still does not change anything.

Ideally it should be solved now. Some url was old. Will it fix by stopping and restarting the client?

I'm having no issues downloading or uploading the new work in Ubuntu 20.04.
I had removed the project and rejoined when Toni advised he was changing to https.

Second Linux machine has uploaded and reported without problems.

Once I manually upload the earlier batch 1 from machine 1, I think we may be out of the woods.

Actually, my final task from the first batch was OK - uploaded by itself.

So, all is OK here - just the early bad ones to clean up, and the rest should be plain sailing.

I still can't get tasks to download on my windows 10 or 7 computers. I removed and reattached the project, and added the s.

Is this a certificate problem of some kind?

More precisely, your client is contacting the scheduler on an old url, which is not covered by the https certificate. Reattaching/updating should fix.

You were correct Toni-
Even though I Quit and reattached when I first got the "old URL" message a day or so ago, I apparently never got updated, as I would have noticed the long download of cufft64_10.dll. I will re-up my other machine as well.

It looks like wu's starting with 1b crash in 4 seconds. Other wu's keep running.

I only started so no completions yet.

Harvey, I feel your pain. I waited an hour for four WUs to download and they took less than 2 minutes to bomb out on the infamous "exceptional condition" error.
Oh, well... That's research for ya'.

I see that some of the WUs I've received are the first of 50 iterations and have a new "TONI_MDADex1s(*) designation.

Something new to rank our hardware with?

H/T to Zoltan for turning me on to those details.

Mr Raisin, unfortunately when I look at your machines you are not running any GPUs compatible with this project.

May I recommend Folding@home https://foldingathome.org/ to you? We participating there are currently involved with covid-19 research on both AMD and Nvidea GPUs.

I have linked up to the Folding@Home but it is awkward because their interface is totally web-based (unlike BOINC)

Are GPU's hardware related only? I have 3 PCs and on all the GPUGrid is not processing. How come it used to process before you switched to the secured URL?.....Call me Chris by the way :-)

Chris, check your tasks list on your personal account page and you'll see that you have not been issued any WUs since you joined.
Check back though, there might be AMD GPU crunching here in the future.

A note about FAH, if you right-click on the FAH taskbar icon you will see 'advanced control'. That will give you more options if you haven't already found it. I wish it was still a BOINC project because the points are sort of worthless in our world here. The science is too important for me to not participate, though.

I hope I've been helpful.

And detaching from this project, because my full personal name came along as a user name while still being attached to it by means of the Science United Account Manager.

Here BOINC Manager lets you choose such an Account Manager, and here BAM! GrcPool, GridRepublic and Science United available when at version 7.14.2

Here which one Account Manager to choose, for also the two separate clients for that of running, really is not a big problem, but also that the NNT feature became overridden as well, and should be a local setting or preference.

Back at running the projects separately, it became too much to handle, but I could still finish off what I am having.

So here also the small details as well, like the refreshing of the task list in the Manager, happening each second or two.

I find it less in the way if clicking on a task not running, meaning suspended, for having it marked or set in a way, because if returning back, that thing is not any active.

Choosing the Add Project from the Tools menu here, and I get a question about aborting the Menu, and I think that one is unneccessary.

I could be having the option of using an Account Manager, for next synchronizing or possibly stopping it altogether, but any detach, for only a word, is not given or specified.

These really are BOINC issues here, for only that of the small things, but any personal details should be ones own choice, for not a thing being set automatically.

Regards, bluestar/finnenummer, Seti@home/PrimeGrid

I have one stalled download that refuses to budge. Uploads go through fine.
http_debug shows any attempt to start the stalled download with a SSL certification error with an incorrect https address.

It's like that task was created with the old http address in its header.
[Edit]
Finally just aborted the download. But then BOINC still thought it was stalled and wouldn't ask for work still.
Edited the client_state to remove the file download and finally got the client to ask for work again.

I removed and then re-added the project with the HTTPS in URL. Yesterday 2 new WUs appeared in the downloading state, but always having the same issue: Project backoff. I couldn't download those 2 new WUs. Most recent error in the BOINC logs:
23/05/2020 10:57:25 AM | | Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.
23/05/2020 10:57:25 AM | GPUGRID | Temporarily failed download of 1b2rA02_450_3-TONI_MDADpr4sb-0-idx_file: transient HTTP error

So, I aborted the transfer, but no new WUs appeared yet. What/where should I check?

Remove and rejoin the project one more time. I think it takes a couple of tries to get all the various files in sync with the https URL's.

Willy will have to fix that - you can't.

Better to cut BAM! out of the loop, and attach directly for now.

he's talking about the statistic local on the host in boinc manager (the tab with the plots and charts). and they WILL be deleted if you remove the project and re-add it.

if you want to preserve your host's statistics, make sure to make a backup of the statistics xml file for gpugrid in the BOINC folder. do this before removing the project. open the file and change the master url to include the 'https'. after re-adding the project, close BOINC and BOINC Manager, replace the new statistics file with the backup. and restart BOINC. if you don't do all this, BOINC will delete and create a new blank stats file and you'll lose the continuity. I lost it on two out of three hosts.

Projects can't prevent themselves being removed. More likely, you attached via an Account Manager: then you'll have to use the same account manager to remove it.

Moreover, Mr. Robert, you are trying to add to GPUGRID project a computer that seems not to have any properly working NVIDIA GPU.
Please, take a look to this previous post. It is regarding other user in similar situation, and contains a link to current project specifications.

Those look like these two

There were some bad tasks made by mistake around that time. Too late to rescue them now: just abort the tasks, and get another pair. The tasks being made now should download OK, though do keep an eye open for more rogue bad ones.

I've lost my statistics in the local BOINC manager. I monitor these. This is frustrating. I wish I hadn't bothered. I also lost all running work units. What happens if I don't bother making this change to https on my other machines?

If projects make these changes then surely they should provide detailed step by step instructions as to how to achieve the change without affecting this type of thing. As a matter of courtesy, if for no other reason.

We shouldn't have to read through forum posts to find out the potential issues.

Just a thought, but this MAY effect why some are seeing this and some aren't. I've got my stats exported (there was an option for hiding this on this project wasn't there? Willy mentioned it for some projects), with BOINCstats saving the data tied to one's cross project ID. When one attaches to a project, a ID is issued, but BOINCstats takes care of the reversion back to a static ID so stats can be maintained cross project. If we're exporting and have the stats on the stat sites already, it should maintain? Unless it lists as a new project for purposes of stat exports that is?

Naturally for this to work, one would need to attach existing account, and use identical passwords, as a hash on the password is part of the identifier for BOINCstats as I remember Willy explaining how he maintains the stat service...

Yep, I have had files download and complete since the 20th, given I only started GPUGRID after that date.

I got the same issue as well, it's not downloading any of the jobs with the "Project backoff" message since the 21st.
https://www.gpugrid.net/result.php?resultid=25072076

I've disabled the project for now in Boinc until this issue might be fixed.

@Aurum Thank you for your response, which I presume (?) was not intended to come across as anything other than helpful, although it could be taken, rightly or wrongly, to imply that I was too lazy to go through forum posts.

Just to clarify, then: the point I was making was that we get a message within BOINC Manager telling us to remove and re-attach the project, without any reference to searching forums for what may happen or what actually did happen. I lost my statistics - that was not even mentioned in messages within BOINC Manager as a possibility. The projects can post messages within BOINC Manager and the message could include refernece to the risks of making a chnage and how to mitigate. Even the link to the forum post did not say that there was any risk in doing this. As I said we should not have to search through a whole plethora of forum posts to find out that there is a risk, or how to avoid it.

I volunteer my computer time and I pay extra for the electricity to run my computers longer and at greater overhead to help the various projects. As a courtesy, I reasonably expect that changes are properly trialed before giving them to me to alpha test, or at least for it to be made clear that I am alpha testing a change when I'm asked to make the change.

If any of the above seems unreasonable on my part, then we have different values, and so let's not fall out over this and just recognise that each of us has a legitimacy in our respective viewpoints.

Just a 'heads up' for y'all.

I had to exit the BOINC manager (stop processes) to completely clear the bad tasks from the download cue after aborting them. It kept spitting out this routine- "some download is stalled". On one machine it had to be reloaded twice because I didn't give the server time to clear the aborted downloads and they showed up again. Be sure to wait a bit before starting BOINC back up.

This might deserve a courtesy notice, no?

Bill, your computer does not show a GPU. There is only work here for CUDA compatible graphics processors. See this post-
https://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=5124&nowrap=true#54891
There is no CPU-only work here.

There is virus research going at Folding@home which you will be able to benefit with your machine.

There is currently a problem with a number of BOINC projects that have switched to https downloads and uploads - those downloads and uploads are blocked, at least for Windows users.

The problem is due to an expired entry in the ca-bundle.crt file that's part of BOINC.

You may need to create a few more workunits to check for this problem.

For users who can't edit that file properly, this is likely to require a new version of BOINC containing an updated version of that file.

I am one of the people who has spent much of the day working on that problem - I wrote https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/issues/3789 to document it.

I run one of the affected projects - NumberFields@home - so I have seen the problem with my own eyes, and tested the workround.

I also run GPUGrid, with HTTPS, and I can confirm that GPUGrid is not affected by this.

yes, this is true. World Community Grid is not affected either.
Among the affected projects are LHC, Rosetta, and, as said above, NumberFields@home.

I've had that a few times too. I could get the problem solved only by aborting the download. However, if doing this, no furhter tasks can be downloaded for a while, as long as BOINC says "a download is stalled". So I always waited quite a while until this notice disappeared. Somewhere here in the forum recently I read that to shorten this "waiting period" just shut down BOINC and restart it.

I don't think they have a MAC version, though I run only Linux myself.
It is the "New version of ACEMD" that you need.

Your computer downloaded 2 tasks at 23:15 utc.
You posted the above 25 minutes after the WUs downloaded?? I guess that is a little humorous.

It seems you have solved the issue and are up and running. good luck!

Logging into the website is insecure according to Firefox. If you go to https://gpugrid.net/login_form.php or https://www.gpugrid.net/login_form.php they both redirect to the insecure one (http://www.gpugrid.net/login_form.php). The login link at the top of the forum pages also goes to the insecure one.

Yes, HTTP to HTTPS redirect still required for this website to complete the transition to a secured (trusted) site.

If you log out and log back in, you are on https sites on the main pages. You can view your account pages in https. You can view the forum listings pages in https.

However, as soon as you enter a forum page, and then click on a forum thread you drop out of https into http.

This is the only place I drop out of https into http. When entering a thread or replying in a thread.

This was checked in Chromium 85.0.4183.83.

EDIT: And I went to the forums, and entered a topic, and they stayed on https: also.

I'm seeing padlock on Forum index, no padlock in forum thread (and none while typing now).

Windows 7, Chrome browser.

Edit: 'no padlock' link is still https. Certificate check shows

Padlock is showing while I edit, with only text visible and no badge images. https image link didn't show in preview: shows after edit to http, but the padlock's gone again.

Edit 2: badges are https, but embedded images from users are http only.

OK, it is only happening in certain threads. Not all show this behavior.

I'm seeing padlock on Forum index, no padlock in forum thread (and none while typing now).

Windows 7, Chrome browser.

This is interesting, for the experts at any rate. On Firefox 80.0, I am not seeing the padlock on the Index or the threads either went going to https://gpugrid.net/login_form.php.

But when going to https://www.gpugrid.net/login_form.php, I see the padlock on the threads but not on the index.

I am glad you have something to do if you are on lockdown or whatever.

Padlock-with-warning usually means that some part of the page is not served in https. Most likely images in user's signatures or such. So, the page itself is encrypted.

To confuse things, recently:

- browsers don't show the padlock on secure sites any more (secure intended as default)
- nor they show the protocol prefix

I seem to remember that very early BOINC web code couldn't render an [img] [/mg] in a post if the url started https: similarly with signatures. I'm trying to locate the forum code update to fix that, to see if we could patch just that small change in here.

But it's not proving easy to find...

Edit: Try Web: fix BBCode transform for [img] when using HTTPS URL

If I type in "http://gpugrid.net" or have an old link that is http, the browser takes you to the http (insecure) site.
There needs to be a http to https redirect setup for the web site.

Thank you very much for your comments.
I've recently applied SSL certificate over servicenginic.com domain, where all the images I want to share are stored.
This includes the ones on mentioned The hardware enthusiast's corner thread.
Some of the contents is already being automatically redirected to HTTPS, and the rest is available by manually changing "http://" to "https://" at browser's address bar.
I've applied the HTTP to HTTPS redirecting script recommended by my webpage hosting. The reason for why it is currently working for some contents and not for other, is a mystery for me...

Edit:
Fresh discovery!
Apparently, ".jpg" images are being successfully redirected to HTTPS, but ".png" images are not... ¿Some clue?

Couple of things to check:
If you are running Wordpress for your Website there is a plugin available that will attempt to go over your site and repair any issues. (backup site first)
Be mindful when adding content that you use a relative address, starting in "//" not an explicit path such as "http://". When using a relative address it will use the site prefix (https).
Some plugins may be linking to libraries or css files with an explicit address.

After additional investigation:

My web stored files are based on a web hosting Apache server of my services provider.
The HTTP to HTTPS redirecting script, file ".htaccess" at webpage root directory, is as follows:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R,L]

For a newbie like me, one trivial discovery:
The following example links are not being redirected to HTTPS:
http://www.servicenginic.com/Boinc/GPUGrid/Forum/HE/FGC/FGC_F.jpg
http://www.servicenginic.com/Boinc/GPUGrid/Forum/HE/FGC/FGC_Ps.png
And these links are being successfully redirected:
http://www.servicenginic.com/Boinc/GPUGrid/Forum/HE/FGC/FGC_F.JPG
http://www.servicenginic.com/Boinc/GPUGrid/Forum/HE/FGC/FGC_Ps.PNG
Both are exactly the same images, the only change is that extensions in capital letters (.JPG, .PNG) are being redirected, while extensions in lowercase letters (.jpg, .png) aren't.
It wasn't the kind of files, but the kind of letter at their estensions. Web contents is sensitive to letter case!
I'll take it in mind in the future...

I would get onto your hosting service. All content should be redirected regardless of case. I would suggest they check the httpd.conf file to ensure nothing is stopping upper/lower case from redirecting consistently. The httpd.conf file is usually only accessible by the hosting service. Most hosting services also offer a control panel to configure your site. Maybe something there as well you can check.
