Probably you've installed your BOINC client to run the projects in protected application execution mode. In this case, the BOINC client runs as a system service, and has no access to the GPU (the operating system grants no access to the GPU). You should reinstall the BOINC client in 'normal' mode.

It will say something to that effect in the log files (running as a PAE/Daemon).

When you access your machine through RDP, Windows cuts the connection between the user interface (graphics, audio, keyboard, mouse etc) hardware, and the user's desktop (including all applications run by the user). So you have to use other remote connection software (VNC, TeamViewer, LogMeIn etc) to access your host remotely.

You should restart the BOINC client, and exit from the scientific applications when stopping BOINC.
