This project solely relies on volunteers meaning you don't get back anything at all, besides some badges and credits. You can also donate money so the scientists can keep this project running. If you don't like it, no one is forcing you to contribute. People contribute for nothing here because they believe in the research the scientists are doing, not because they want to earn something.

Thank you for your statement! I can understand what you're saying and if you feel exploited then just leave the project... In the real world you may not get anything back from work you might be doing. Think of many volunteering work people do and they don't get compensated for that. Why they do it? Because they want to help out or they feel good while doing it... As for supercomputers, remember that they are scarce and costly. You need to actually buy computing time in order to use them and that costs a lot and you often have a long waiting list before you're allowed to run your own work on them. Also, only some universities have super computers so all other universities who don't, they either have to buy computing time (which costs a lot as said) or set up a distributed system running on, for example BOINC, and hope their project becomes big so they can harvest all the computing power donated and use it for their research, which in the end will benefit all humans. All the research by GPUGRID scientists, is openly available to any user who might want to see what's going on and to what he's donating computing power. Especially in the case of GPUGRID, the scientists are very engaged with the project, submit enough tasks for us to crunch and answer quickly in case of problems. This combined with the papers they publish, is more than enough to motivate me personally to donate computing power to this project. In the end, BOINC is all about volunteering... It was developed with that in mind, not for projects to donate money to its users. Some projects do go further and give you a certificate in case your computer discovers something. Just look at Einstein@Home which sends certificates to its users when they discover a new pulsar :) ____________ Team Belgium

Basically I don't think about an monetary donation. I thought of something like a used graphicscard (like a gtx 460) you don't need anymore which you could offer to a client (like me for instance) or an old quadcore CPU for builing a new system wich will participate in your project.

I can understand what you're saying and if you feel exploited then just leave the project Callous man, he can't leave. Can't you see he has the BOINC equivalent of battered wife syndrome. Yeah, BVS... battered volunteer syndrome. ____________ BOINC <<--- credit whores, pedants, alien hunters

I am flabbergasted by this series of posts. There is so much I want to say but I will just bite my tongue.

It's probably better to just say it, you wouldn't want to regret not saying anything.

I am flabbergasted by this series of posts. There is so much I want to say but I will just bite my tongue. I think I know how you feel. We probably all feel it. The horror of BVS is real and we must find the courage to speak out against it and support victims like poor Strebsi. Strebsi you poor thing I want you to know that you are loved. At this very moment we are holding a candlelight vigil just for you. We're wearing our ribbons too because you know ribbons are like totally awesome magic, they help in so many ways. And you are in our prayers. We pray for an intervention and a healing and we pray that somehow you can find the courage to open BOINC manager, highlight GPUgrid and click Remove. ____________ BOINC <<--- credit whores, pedants, alien hunters

you don't know about BITCOIN do you? If you want to earn money crunching you are better off going there and leaving BOINC. However it is unlikely you will break even on the electricity cost, and basically all the crunching you are doing is going to be a waste searching for "Bitcoins" which I still don't understand what those actually are.

Thank you for all these comments. Am I cancelled for GPU-Grid? because I don't get any new Project to compute? Alright I calm down....
