I've got my handy-dandy GTX 970 that has crunched for ages. Some of you may recall that my prior one blew up a few months ago. http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=4332 So anyways, just recently, I noticed that my GPUGrid task isn't running, even though it's about 90% done. It just says waiting to run. I look at my messages and it says no usable GPU's. I'm not running anything using the GPU in the background, so I'm confused why it's doing this. Any suggestions?

It appears that you are using the latest driver, 375.70. Did you do a clean uninstall of the old one?

I would use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU)

Are you using remote desktop to access your PC? (it disconnects the GPU from the console, thus from the apps running under that user account)
Are there any other users logged on to this PC? (same effect as the remote desktop)
Have you installed BOINC in "protected execution mode" aka system service? (system services can't access the GPU)

I do connect remotely, but the program I use doesn't disconnect the GPU. I've been using my remote software for over 2 years now with no issues. This was recent. It doesn't specify why it stopped. My BOINC has been running the same way for over a year. There have been no changes to the system (that I'm aware of and I tend to stay on top of these things) that should cause any issues. I'll take a look at the driver uninstaller.

So it seems it might be the remoting in, but that's strange because it's never been an issue before. I'll see if the software updated itself and then see if I can roll it back.

Ok, so I rebooted and did not connect remotely and my jobs still won't run. I'll try cleaning up the driver.

Ok, uninstalled everything that was even remotely a remote desktop program.
Same issue...

Uninstalled (with recommended driver uninstaller, thank you for that, awesome tool) video driver and reinstalled.
Same issue...

Was really considering doing a system refresh, but then had a thought.

Uninstalled and reinstalled BOINC.
Worked like a charm. It didn't lose any of the current jobs and fixed the issue. So BOINC was broken somehow.

Thanks for the replies!

When you install new drivers and cards on Linux it's usually the case that you need to reinstall Boinc (remove-add), but I haven't seen that on Windows in a while. Reminds me of the bad old days - NT4-update :) - NOOOOOoooohhhhshi!

- suggest you run a disk check.

Had it happen again, thought it might be the updated drivers. Noooo. I did some digging and it turns out that my remote desktop services (which I don't use, I use other remote desktop programs) got switched to manual, so it seemed like the remote desktop feature was actually in use when it wasn't. I disabled the service, restarted BOINC and wa-la! it works. Just in case anybody else runs into this issue. My current remote software does not cause any conflicts.
