One after another my Linux Mint crunchers are failing. It doesn't seem to be just one way. Cinnamon crashes repeatedly. If you run inxi -v 3 it stops after CPU until it is Killed. When that happens GPUs can no longer be recognized and do nothing. As its final death throe rebooting ends on a screen that says Cinnamon failed.
I've tried reinstalling with an erased drive but something called webkit with extra letters causes the update of initrms to fail.
It might be something I did but I doubt it since it's happening on Linux computers that haven't done anything but crunch and get Linux updates manually.
I've tried reinstalling Linux Mint 19.1 using my bootable USB and even updated to latest (whatever number that they do not provide) ISO. Same story.
Now I'm going to try installing Ubuntu and see if it works so I can get back up to speed.
Any suggestions??? TIA

There has been plenty said about Linux Mint being past it's prime. Linux Mint was an early trend setter in packaging all the useful drivers/applications with a customized desktop that was genuinely easy to use.
Other distros have now caught up on the packaging and OS features.
Mint is now just another Debian fork.
It has been suggested that Mint be discontinued as a distro, and just concentrate on their strengths as a third party OS desktop developer.
