Change Log:

Reverted the manager back to the 6.2 version of the manager.

---
The need to get a CUDA enabled BOINC client has caused us to revert back to the 6.2 version of the BOINC Manager for the 6.4 release. Obviously a few minor tweaks will show up in the 6.4 manager such as the ability to see what processors a particular task is using. Plus the new way of handling startup and shutdown of both the manager and core client.

Just so everyone is on the same page, the bar for fixing manager bugs is pretty high right now, if we can we will ship this release. What I mean by this is if you find a bug and we can reproduce this bug on the 6.2 client, it isn’t a showstopper. Basically if the 6.2 manager was in good enough shape to release, this manager ought to be in good enough shape to release. Be sure to send an email for all bugs you find, just in case it is something that really does need to be fixed, I don’t know what it might be at the moment, but better to be safe than sorry.

All the changes you have been helping us with will make their appearance again in the 6.5 clients.

I've done some minor testing over past 16 hours. So far so good.

Alpha testers have not reported any major issues with 55% of all tests complete.

As far as gpu scheduling, there were few changes over 6.3.21. So everything should remain running fine.

I believe linux users should see the cpu/gpu task set to a different 'nice' value than before, whatever makes it a higher priority. Windows users should remain running as 'Normal' for the cpu/gpu task. All other cpu tasks should remain at the 'lowest' value.

Disk limts should be fixed. Correct 'GB' value now reported in messages and used by the client. Check your preferences and see that this is correct value as reported in manager upon startup. If you check you current version, you should note a difference after installing 6.4.0

Things to note:

Fixed bugs in 6.3.22 and 6.3.23 that made those crash.

The client (part that does the task scheduling) runs cpu and cpu/gpu tasks. This is the same client we tested in the 6.3.xx series to get the gpu features.

The Manager we had in the 6.3.xx series has been replaced by the version from the 6.2.xx series. You will notice some features have dissappeared, such as the 'properties' button. Do not fear, they will be reintroduced. Do to the way things were going, it was determind by the developers this merger was a better path to follow.

For windows, there is a new way to start manager, it is started from the registry and not the startup folder. There is a new option in advance/options to control if it is started at startup.

There is a new exit option, you can choose to shut down science apps, as it does now, or not. You can turn this message on or off also under advanced/options.

This version is set to be the recommended version soon (within a week I guess), unless a major bug is found.

It should be safe* to upgrade.

I upgraded two hosts with gpu from 6.3.21 and one old non gpu hosts from 5.10.13. No problems on any update. All are still running smoothly this morning. One runs ok after severel exits and 1 reboot.

*Warranty: None.

There is a problem with language translations.

If you use another language besides english in boinc, you should wait for 6.4.1

6.4.1 has been built for Windows and linux, both 32's and 64's.

Only real fix is the localizations (language files).

I installed three copies over 6.4.0 with no problems yet.

Reports from alpha tests remain good.
