If your mobo has x16 and x8 pci-e(link), does having 2 gpu powers down PCI-E_1 to x8? or should it run GPU1 @x16 and GPU2 @x8? This is single card mode not sli.

Yup, thats my setup. On the manual, Blue is x16 and Black is x8 ...when using single card on blue, link is x16. when using dual card on blue and black link is x8 and x8. My question is why the blue is now operating at x8 not x16. ____________

The Asus P5Q-E uses the Intel P45 Express Chipset. This chipset only supports x16 PCI-E for a single slot. For two slots, it redistributes the available PCI-E channels across both slots, so you have 2 slots at x8. With the P45, these slots are PCI-E version 2.0, so at x8 each of them can still push about 4 GB/sec.
