Hi all,
this is an Ubuntu 8.10/64bit PC with a 8600GT (driver 180.22) and boinc 6.4.5
As I am able to find CUDA devices as root, this prooves the installation to be working. Now there appears to be a problem with permissions, as an "ordinary" user does not find them.
I did read the faq and searched the messages here and googled a bit. So I added user "boinc" to "video" as advised in /etc/group and /etc/gshadow. Then I tried to make shure, that each and every file and directory of boinc belongs to user and group boinc.
I am member od group boinc. User boinc is member of group video. Still no go (except for root)

Yet another idea came to my mind, as this software is a good example of "distributed" computing: ;-)
some parts I find in /usr/bin
others (like data) are in /var/lib (if memory serves right) Here I put libcuda.so to make it work somehow.

Is there another place to look for ?

To make the long story short: I solved it the easy way. I uninstalled/deleted all installations of boinc and started a new installation with all files and directories owned by myself. This works "right out of the box". The only small problem I still have to solve is: how do I run it as a service in the background? But this question I will answer myself for me.

It is just the way I thought. As well I as boinc are members of group video. (judging from the contents of the group files). So to make sure, my findings reflect what the system itself says, I'd like to check once more using some tool. (not using "less", but something that can ask the system)
Any idea what I might use ?
